Getting A Better View

Another week has gone by. In some respects, we would like to have someone put a stop to the clock. When it comes time to write our blog, we are reminded of how quickly time passes.

We have had our first visitors from home already. Brad and Dawn Anderson stopped by on their way to Sweden to do a Family History trip. It was our P-day and we were able to show them some of the more interesting spots in town. The weather was almost perfect for their visit. The rain stopped and the Sun was out with some beautiful white clouds and a cool breeze. We walked around to the main tourist spots then went on a harbor boat tour which turned out to be the highlight of the day. After eating a Danish pulser (hot dog) and visiting the Danish Museum for an hour they were almost falling asleep on their feet (no rest after a long flight from Portland). We took them home and had dinner then played some games. They wanted to stay awake until 9 pm so they could be on the right “clock” for their trip. They over-nighted at our place and left early the next day.

We had an interesting day at the Temple yesterday (every day is interesting). A ward from Germany had their Temple Day here in Copenhagen. They are 4 hours from our Temple but 6 hours from their Temple, so they frequently come here. We also had some US travelers. Where ever you were In the Temple there was a different language being spoken, and in many places in the Temple you could hear Danish, Swedish, English and German all being spoken at once. With the help of a language card Gary was even able to assist the German saints. We are beginning to see how extensive our work is going to be here.

On one of our quick morning tours, we accidentally came across Christiania, a hippy community started in the 70s. The pictures look very charming but we found it is not kept up nor cleaned. Webbing was hanging from the houses and walkways and gardens were natural. We tried to take a picture down one of the main streets but were stopped by a man saying they sell marijuana and hard drugs and pictures were not allowed.

Tonight we went to Albertslund, a living friendly community Gary did architectural work on many years ago. There are many walkways, places for gardens and waterways. It is wonderful to take these little trips to experience Denmark again.

Have you seen the church movie 'The Testament'? The actor who plays Christ is Danish. When the Church wanted to cast for it, his wife sent his information in. When Elders Faust and Scott saw him they chose him immediately saying he was a close likeness. Well, I got a chance to go to a concert in Tivoli Garden with some other ladies where he and 3 other singers were performing. He has a beautiful, strong voice. I loved it. He is related to one of the Temple Missionaries that also went. She said he and his wife couldn't have children but were hesitant to adopt. Elder Scott gave her a blessing indicating they might consider adoption. He knew of a young unwed sister who was soon to deliver. When the girl met them, she was very excited to have them raise her child saying she felt they were the right parents. She even came to Denmark and lived with them for several months to care for the baby. They have since adopted another child. They come to the temple frequently.

We are feeling right at home here.
