Indoor Activity

Hans Peter (Neilsen) Larsen about 1878

The cold weather has kept us indoors for all but emergencies (thankfully we didn’t have any of those).  An up-to-date photo gallery will therefore be almost empty, but the family history lines have been made clearer.
Gunderød Census 1860

I don’t know that my great-great grandfather, Niels Larsen was born while his mother was visiting in Gunderød, but it appears that way.  Her residence was on the farm in Kajerød.  Why his son, Hans Peter Larsen, was born in Gunderød is now more understandable because Niels Larsen left the farm in Kajerød and married Anne Hansen, a young girl from Gunderød.  The 1860 Census for Gunderød shows Niels Larsen from the Birkerød parish as the head of the Gunderød farming household with his wife Anne Hansen from the Gunderød parish. Anne’s parents, Hans Pedersen and Karen Sørensdatter, are part of the household, which would indicate that Niels was running the Pedersen farm.
Digitized 1860 Census

Hans Pedersen and Karen Sørensdatter had five children.  Anne was the only one to live long enough to get married and have children.  One child died at age 3, and one at age 7.  The other two, one 14 and the other 22, died within a month of each other in 1845.  Niels, Anne and Hans Peter emigrated to Utah around 1864, leaving Anne’s ageing parents without any family.  Her mother died in 1865 and her father died in 1867.  The plot thickens.  I hope to uncover more church conversion details about this family and the conditions of those they left behind.

Stay tuned.
