Just In Time For Fall Vacation

Gaudi's Sagrada Familia
Gaudi's Sagrada Familia

Well, I’m caught up, but there is a lot to say about this week, and a large photo gallery.  Hang in there!  I’ll try to condense it.  Barcelona is a photographer’s dream, to say nothing about the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

Barcelona is one of the most pleasant cities we have ever visited.  The Streets are beautiful, the parks are beautiful, the buildings are beautiful and well preserved and the weather is beautiful.

Of interest to most people who visit Barcelona is the large collection of buildings and parks and street furniture by architect Antonio Gaudi.  Almost all of his work has a playful nature about it; however, some of it seems a little dark and sinister.

The exposition of 1929 gave the city some significant architecture.  The most significant contribution to the city, and almost the least understood pavilion was by architect Mies Van Der Rohe where his design of the pavilion and its furniture, namely the Barcelona chair gave a strong contribution to the design world.  The chair is still manufactured and found throughout the World.  His pavilion was reconstructed several years ago and is an attraction to a number of tourists, including us.

The Guggenheim Museum by Frank Gehry in Bilbao has been called the most beautiful building in the World.  We agree!   It’s impossible to experience being there through these photos.  The reality is quite different.  This is the best we can do.  We know that Peter was on his mission in Bilbao.  We thought of him a lot during the day we were there.
Gaudi's Casa Batilo

We came back to the Temple this week during the annual Fall Vacation where there is a tradition that the youth from all over Denmark come to the Temple to do Baptisms.  We had three sessions each day (Tuesday thru Friday) of twenty youth at each session.  It’s a wonderful tradition and a wonderful experience to be Baptismal Coordinators for such a nice group of young people.  Then yesterday we had a group from Sweden come for a youth Temple trip, so it has been a busy week.  It’s good to be back in the Temple.  Two weeks of Temple closure is too long to be away from the Work.

That’s about as short as I can make it this time.
